Head Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, Austin Hospital Clinical Associate Professor, University Of Melbourne President OSSANZ Ahmad is an Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon with active clinical, teaching and research interests in advanced laparoscopic surgery, benign and malignant upper gastrointestinal disease and bariatric surgery. Specific areas of interest in the field of bariatrics include mechanisms of surgery, the role of revisional surgery and modern metabolic care. Ahmad trained in Melbourne at the Austin Hospital and completed fellowships in specialist Upper GI Surgery in Adelaide and Sheffield, UK. Ahmad is a representative on several professional associations and advisory bodies in the areas of upper gastrointestinal surgery and bariatric surgery and has been actively involved in clinical governance, health care networking and service delivery. He currently serves as the President of OSSANZ, Head of Upper GI Surgery at the Austin Hospital and is a Clinical Associate Professor with the University of Melbourne. Ahmad is a regular contributor to national and international meetings with over 60 presentations and more than 30 peer reviewed publications and book chapters Ahmad’s bariatric practice encompasses gastric banding, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, endotherapeutic techniques and complex revisional bariatric surgery in both public and private sectors in Melbourne. He is a passionate advocate for the prevention and treatment of obesity and believes strongly in multidisciplinary team care and increasing publicly funded access to bariatric surgery. Ahmad is delighted to be involved in the inaugural combined ANZOS / OSSANZ meeting.
