Dr Jason Free is one of Australia's leading bariatric and metabolic surgeons, internationally recognised for his expertise in advanced weight loss surgery, surgical innovation, and leadership within the global obesity surgery community. A specialist General Surgeon with subspecialty expertise in bariatric and hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB) surgery, he has dedicated his career to advancing the treatment of obesity and metabolic disease through excellence in patient care, research, education, and surgical innovation. Dr Free is the current President of the Australia & New Zealand Metabolic and Obesity Surgery Society (ANZMOSS) and has served on its Board for many years, working closely with leading European and North American surgical societies to improve standards of bariatric care and patient outcomes worldwide. Following accredited fellowship training through ANZMOSS, Dr Free undertook extensive advanced training in Australia, Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States, learning from internationally renowned leaders in bariatric surgery. In 2015, he pioneered the introduction of the Single Anastomosis Duodeno-Ileostomy (SADI) procedure in Australia and has since become one of the country's foremost authorities on the technique, mentoring surgeons nationally and regularly presenting at major scientific meetings. A passionate educator and innovator, Dr Free has been at the forefront of robotic bariatric surgery since 2019, proctoring surgeons across Australia and helping establish best practice in robotic metabolic surgery. He is actively involved in clinical research and is a sought-after speaker on complex bariatric surgery, revision surgery, and emerging surgical technologies. With more than 15 years of specialist surgical experience, Dr Free combines technical excellence with a deeply patient-centred philosophy, tailoring treatment to achieve durable health outcomes while advancing the future of metabolic and bariatric surgery through leadership, collaboration, and innovation.
